Benina is a gem of a farmer. At a very young age, she had the foresight to transition her family’s almond orchards to organic. Not only does the farm provide almonds, but also eggs and dairy. Joel Salatin (of Omnivore’s Dilemma fame) was so impressed he took a group on tour with him to observe the happy trees, chickens and cows. Benina and Alison became fast friends after meeting at Slow Food Nation in 2008 because of their mutual love of food and care for the way it is brought to the table. We blend the almonds in our Gracious Granola and thus in our Cherry and Date granola bars.
Butternut Mountain Farm
In Boston for an investor conference in 2009 would normally be the last place a person would source organic ingredients. That’s exactly what happened. Alison told some investors she was looking for 100% Vermont maple syrup and they introduced her to Butternut Mountain Farms. You can find their maple syrup in all 18 Rabbits granolas and bars.
TCHO
We are a San Francisco company and TCHO is too. They make chocolate from bean to bar. We make granola and bars from scratch. We like that they work directly with farmers to grow the very best cacao beans. Those beans make our nibs. Healthy relationships with farmers, healthy soil and healthy bodies go hand-in-hand. We love the delightful crunch, complex nutty notes with hints of coffee and powerful antioxidants they add to our Veritas Granola, as well as our Apricot and Fig granola bars.
Traina
Years ago, Alison’s good friend Nick Kelley of Alive & Radiant told her about the amazing fruits at Traina. We love them for their dried California apricots and cherries, which we have been incorporating into our granola bars for years. We will soon be using Traina’s organic strawberries, bringing Mango Strawberry [and our entire product line!] fully organic. Their fruits are sun-dried, never plumped full of sugars – just the way we like them.
Rumiano Cheese
A little grass-fed butter adds a lot to Gracious granola, and Alison has stayed true to her mom’s original recipe. In the spirit of family dedication, we source our butter from Rumiano Cheese, the oldest family-owned cheese company in California. Here, cows graze year-round, and Rumiano is certified through the American Humane Association as a humane dairy producer.
Rio Grande Organics
Our pecans are born and raised in Texas – just like Alison! Rio Grande harvests 1200 acres of trees each year, and they are dedicated to measurable and lasting soil replenishment through organic farming. Discover this quintessential Texan nut in our Gracious Granola as well as our Cherry Dark Chocolate & Almond and Date Pecan & Coconut bars.
