Q: Where did the name 18 Rabbits come from?
A: Company founder Alison Bailey Vercruysse grew up on Two Lost Valley Lane in Texas with her four siblings, a pony, a Yorkshire terrier, and a pet rabbit named Blackjack. While Alison was playing with her brothers and sisters outside one afternoon, Blackjack wandered off unbeknownst to the family and must have had a rabbit rendezvous- for several weeks later it became clear that Blackjack was not a he but a she, and there were soon 18 rabbits hopping about Two Lost Valley Lane!

Alison was inspired to name her company 18 Rabbits because it captures the essence and purity of both her childhood, where she first learned to bake, and the delectable baked goods she creates today.

Q: There are many granola products in the market, why should I choose 18 Rabbits?
Our granola cereals and bars are made with the purest ingredients available so that we can offer you foods that are both delectable and nourishing. We are committed to sourcing the finest sustainably grown ingredients from local producers and artisans like TCHO, Burroughs Family Farm, Meduri Farms, Straus Family Creamery, Butternut Mountain Farm and San Joaquin Fig.

Q: How much are your products?
A: The suggested retail price for a 12 oz. bag of our granola is $8 and for a 1.9 oz granola bar it is $2.50.

18 Rabbits foods are crafted with quality and sustainability being the first priorities in all aspects of their creation, rather than price. 18 Rabbits founder, Alison, is directly involved in the selection of ingredients, including taste-tests at the almond farm to ensure their excellence! Choosing to use local, artisan, organic ingredients is more expensive than conventional alternatives. The principle of quality over cost also applies to our baking methods; 18 Rabbits products are actually made-to-order, then handcrafted and packed (by real people!) to ensure quality taste and natural goodness.

Q: Why does 18 Rabbits have a high fat content? Can I eat it if I’m trying to lose weight?
A: Our granola contains unsaturated fat – the good kind. Unsaturated fat has several nutritional benefits, including the ability to decrease cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of heart disease. We like to call it “happy fat.” The saturated fat found in 18 Rabbits granola comes from organic, unsweetened coconut, which actually helps raise levels of good cholesterol. Diets high in “happy fats” have proven to be successful in helping to achieve and maintain healthy weight.

Additionally, 18 Rabbits foods are high in fiber and protein. Foods high in fiber and protein are satiating, which means they can help keep your cravings under control. Remember that unhealthy snacks containing refined sugars and carbohydrates can cause spikes in blood sugar levels and lead to additional cravings. So the next time you feel the need to nibble, give your taste buds and your body a treat by choosing an 18 Rabbits granola bar!

Q: Can I eat 18 Rabbits if I have a wheat allergy?
A: There are no wheat or wheat derivatives in any of the ingredients used in 18 Rabbits products. Wheat can be difficult to digest; It is often highly processed and turns to sugar quickly, and can cause bloating. It isn’t easy to create a satisfying and tasty food that’s wheat-free, but we at 18 Rabbits feel that it is important to ensure that our products make you feel as good as they taste.

Q: Is 18 Rabbits safe for people who can’t eat gluten?
All 18 Rabbits granola and bars contain oats. While oats in and of themselves do not contain gluten, we use certified organic oats which may have been milled on the same equipment as wheat. For this reason, our oats are NOT considered GLUTEN FREE. We prefer to have CERTIFIED ORGANIC oats to GLUTEN FREE. There are currently NO CERTIFIED ORGANIC AND GLUTEN FREE oats on the market. We are constantly monitoring the oat market and when certified organic AND gluten free oats become available, we intend to switch all 18 Rabbits bars and granola.

Q: I need to watch my sugar intake. Can I still eat 18 Rabbits granola and bars?
A: Our granola is sweetened with a just a few grams of maple syrup and honey, which are natural unrefined sugars. Unrefined sugars are less processed than refined sugars, so they have less impact on blood sugar levels. As far as total sugar content, 18 Rabbits has less sugar per serving than any other granola on the market, making it a great choice if you are watching your sugar intake. Our recipes were developed with a diabetic and were created to be diabetic-friendly.

Q: Is 18 Rabbits granola good for kids to eat?
A: YES! Have you tried our new Felicitas Granola and Jr. Bars? With no nuts or dairy, they are allergy friendly but still packed with protein from sunflower, pumpkin, sesame and chia seeds. In four scrumptious flavors with fun characters, there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy!

If you have nut eaters in your house, we have also found that kids love the taste of our granola and 18 Rabbits bars- and parents love the nutritional value that comes along with them. Our granola bars are great to pack with lunch, bring to a soccer game, take on a bike ride, or to eat as an after school snack, and the chewy texture makes them easy for kids to eat.

Q: Are 18 Rabbits bars considered energy bars?
A: They are not like the conventional energy bars you see today- many of which contain artificial colors and flavors, caffeine, and other (often unpronounceable) “magic” ingredients. Our granola bars provide sustenance and wholesome energy with fiber, protein and healthy fat. We believe in the power of holistic energy that comes from eating real, whole foods with simple and nourishing ingredients.

Q: Why isn’t 18 Rabbits 100% organic?
A: Careful thought goes into choosing the perfect ingredients for our granola. At 18 Rabbits, we know the people producing our ingredients because they are close to home. We prefer to work with local growers and food artisans; some of who may not be certified organic, but still create the purest, freshest, highest quality foods in a sustainable way. Depending on which product you’re savoring, 80-90% of the ingredients in our granola and granola bars are certified organic. Our certifying agent is California Certified Organic Farmers (CCOF).

Q: Are your products sulfur dioxide free?
A: Yes, 18 Rabbits foods are sulfur dioxide free! Sulfur dioxide preserves the color in fruit– it’s what keeps dried apricots orange. It is also a toxin, and our bodies often have difficulty processing it. The fruit in all of our products is free of sulfur dioxide. In fact, any food that is certified organic must NOT contain fruit treated with sulfur dioxide.

Q: Are your foods non-GMO?
A: Yes, 18 Rabbits foods are non-GMO! We believe that you are what you eat, so eating pure, natural foods is imperative to living a healthy lifestyle. GMO is the abbreviation for genetically modified organisms. GMO seeds, and the foods that are grown from them, have been artificially manipulated and therefore are not sustainable.
No food that is certified organic may contain GMOs.

Q: What happened to Divinely D'Lish?
A: Divinely D'lish changed its name to 18 Rabbits in January, 2008.
